Butterfly Farm

Yesterday we tagged along with our homeschooling neighbors for a field trip to the butterfly farm that's about an hour from our home. The kids had fun looking at the butterflies and caterpillars. There was a nature hike afterward that ended up being more hike than I had bargained for. It wouldn't have been bad, if not for the fact that I was pushing Jack in the big stroller through dry creek beds, over dead trees, rock, etc. If that wasn't bad enough, I had to start carrying Josh on my back while pushing Jack in the stroller. It was such a nightmare...a seemingly never-ending nightmare. We finally made it back to the picnic area for some much needed re-fueling and then it was home again, home again, jiggedy jig. It was great motivation to take advantage of all the great things to do around town. The girls payed such good attention to the instructor teach about caterpillars, eggs, and butterflies. Each child was given a piece of cantaloupe to feed the butterflies, but no one had luck getting one to land on their fruit. The black speck she's pointing at is a baby caterpillar that when full grown will be as long as an adult's index finger. The white dots on the leaf are caterpillar eggs.
We were thoroughly warned not to feed the turtle, because it would bite.
This was the best pose I could get outside the butterfly farm house.
Cute girls.
Jack was a little tired and hungry, but he did so well.
How could anyone resist this face?
This is to give you an idea of what our hike was like...it got much worse, so I had to put the camera away.

I think if he could talk, he would've asked "what were you thinking woman?"
