I really don't know what we were thinking this day. Like I said before I really wanted to pick fruit while in California. Clarissa knew of a great place in Bakersfield for families to pick fruit together. They have a little animal petting area, and hay mazes. Of course, we waited until it was the very hottest part of the day to go...100 degrees! For some reason I thought we'd be in the shade, so I didn't even take Jack's hat! It's a miracle we didn't all walk away looking like lobsters. We didn't stay very long though, because the kids weren't diggin' the heat, and to be honest, I felt like my face was melting off. We've decided that next time we'll go in the early morning when the animals are still out, and it's cool enough to linger for more than half an hour.
Inside the barn is a little grocery area where you can buy the fruit already picked, or go outside and pick it yourself. We had some of both. It was very yummy.
I think there was a little sampling going on in the wagons.
Well, now we know the kids are capable of manual labor! No excuses later!

The kids loved picking the fruit off the trees. There were pluots, apricots, nectarines, blackberries, raspberries, boysenberries, etc. It really was a neat little place. Yea for the San Joaquin Valley! Thanks to Clarissa for showing us a good time!
Carly looks so cute picking the fruit. She and Kaela look like the best of friends pulling the wagon. What fun memories.
